Psychology is based on culture, which can be considered the driving force behind the mind and way of thinking. Aspects like personality traits are influenced by different cultures in their own individual manner and how they are communicated or shared with other people.
An example of this relationship would be a patient and his family. They may not have many similarities, but their beliefs and practices differ completely.
So, what exactly do these cultural influences on personality look like?
You’re here to learn more about them and why some are important, and others aren’t.
Culture Affects How We Attitude About Life
Cultures, in general, impact our view and attitude toward life, like the positive outlook we get from being around certain people. That’s because it’s something that you will learn.
The person you’re talking to may have an accent or use slang you don’t understand. Most of us are growing up speaking English and trying to fit into this new community in our native tongue.
You can also ask yourself certain questions when you see someone speak, so you can form an opinion of whether or not they’re right or wrong. There are two kinds of culture in psychology in terms of communication, these are verbal and social.
These both influence the way we communicate with each other as well as the way we understand and think about things.
When speaking to another person, especially if they’re foreign and you want to speak to them in your native language, you need to be clear or try to speak to yourself.
Culture Influence the Way We Think About Ourselves
Cultures show us what is expected and help us determine if someone is good at what they do. It doesn’t show who they are but what type of person they are and how they have lived their life.
For example, if a Chinese person lives in America, she may be interested in sports or go out to parties.
If you met a girl who lives in her home country but speaks fluent Cantonese, you probably wouldn’t start anything too serious, though they might have some hobbies like collecting rare old books or maybe even going to the movies sometimes.
You can see examples of this everywhere all over the world. It shows you the difference and how people have adapted to the new culture by not judging the individual.
Culture Affects What We Believe in And Who We Are
Cultures also influence our self-image. For example, people who live in traditional societies like China, Korea, or Japan have a strong sense of self-worth.
People from those places have had a harder time finding success than people from Western countries. Because of this, you’ll find that people from these areas focus more on themselves than anyone else.
They want to know who they are and not be afraid to take risks. This is another factor that affects people’s ability to succeed and become successful.
They may not be in shape like everyone else, but they may become great athletes or scientists because of their physical qualities.
Culture Contributes to How We Express Feelings but Also How We Communicate with Others and How We View Themselves
Cultures affect how we think about ourselves (a positive or negative view). Some cultures encourage women to become independent and do whatever they want when they want on their own without any restrictions.
This is seen in South Asia and Japan. Women are encouraged not to be married to someone after they reach puberty or older.
This kind of mentality causes men to feel very insecure about themselves, especially if they haven’t found anything because they weren’t given any confidence.
They’re like little boys waiting for parental love, but instead, they find themselves doing nothing at all and being alone in their problems. So, people don’t respect them and often make fun of them, treating them as childish and immature.
Nowadays, girls tend to become confident through beauty pageants or online contests.
Culture Impact the Ways We Motivate Self-Esteem
Cultural influences also contribute to what we believe in and are. Many religions or religious groups encourage people to follow certain beliefs.
Many cultures would say their God is God, and he’s the only one who knows everything. We were taught to think that religion or faith needed to be accepted by society.
Belief in such a thing as God allows you to feel at ease. A positive belief in your religion encourages someone to have a more positive outlook on life.
They can then live a fulfilling life without problems, feeling confident about who they are and what they can achieve.
